Dearest colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my honor to welcome you to the 18th Congress of the Romanian Society of Laboratory Medicine, with the theme “Laboratory medicine at the interface with the clinic”, which will be held between the 25th and the 28th of May, 2011, in Sibiu.
It is a pleasure to host in Sibiu, the 2007 European Capital of Culture and city which has obtained the “City of Good Manners” distinction this year, a scientific event that has become traditional for the laboratory specialists.
In agreement with the Scientific Committee, we will offer an extremely interesting program consisting of plenary presentations, company symposia, workshops and poster presentations.
The affiliation of the Romanian Society of Laboratory Medicine to the European Society of Laboratory Medicine, as well as to International Societies, such as The Balkan Federation of Clinical Laboratories (BCLF), the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), the World Association of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Societies (WASPALM), and the collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Chemistry (AACC), aid us in offering an international dimension to the event through the speakers designated by these organizations to honor the Romanian Congress.
In these times of financial difficulties it must exist a strong cooperation among all those that supply healthcare services, for a judicious spending of the material resources. Laboratory specialists must not only provide technical support in performing tests, but also assume the role of consultants for colleagues belonging to all specialties in order to use professionally the extended range of laboratory investigations and so that the latest discoveries are integrated in the modern patient nursing.

Dearest Colleagues,
The 2011 RSLM scientific events mark the 55th anniversary of the first organizational structure foundation, known as the Clinical Laboratory Section affiliated to the Union of Medical Sciences Society of Romania (The Romanian Medical Association of today) and the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Romanian Society of Laboratory Medicine (continuation of the Romanian Society of Clinical Laboratory). The Romanian Society of Laboratory Medicine, an academical society, constantly express their interest and for perceptiveness towards novelty, develop professional relationships with other societies and associations, maintain relationships with international forums of which the society is a member.
Taking into consideration the alert rhythm of the progress in laboratory medicine, the event will rapidly diseminate the novelties of the medical world. The scientific section is a current image of the research field and an anticipation of its directions in the European Union.
This year we have the great honor and pleasure to organize in Sibiu, for the second time, the most important scientific event of laboratory medicine, with topics focused on the most relevant problems of medical assistance. The Congress topic, „Laboratory medicine at clinical interface” provides various practical implications. As well, it has already become a tradition for the Congress to have many professional participants that deliver their valuable knowledge to their younger colleagues.
On the occasion of these prestigious scientific events, the registered participants will have the opportunity to discuss directly with the laboratory ecquipment and reagents suppliers within the CLINILAB and TEHNOmedica specialized exhibition.
It is my ferm belief that we will all enjoy a remarkable scientific event. I take this honoring opportunity to wish every success to all the participants that have submitted abstracts for the Congress and salute all the members of the clinical laboratory medicine community, from Romania, as well as from abroad.
